I come from a gospel music background and have been singing since I was young child. My experience ranges from vocal jazz to pop metal to standards to adult contemporary. I love listening to all of the above and my writing tends to encapsulate all of those styles in one way or another.
I wrote my first song at the age of 11 and really never stopped writing. On Sunday mornings, while my dad preached up a storm, I would turn over the church bulletin and start writing a lyric and the melody would come to me as I wrote. The same afternoon I would go back into the church, after lunch, and fumble around looking for the basic chords on the piano and then I would record the new song using the church sermon recording system. That didn’t do much for my spiritual life, but it sure got the song writing wheels turning.
Well a lot has changed since then but the process is still pretty much the same. One big difference is that my relationship with God has changed dramatically in the last several years and I have committed my talent to the Lord. I lead worship services for a local church and write songs about the real-life ups and downs in my growing relationship with God. Some of those songs are probably playing right now as you read this bio.
I don't come close to having all the answers. But I do have a gift given me by God and I only want to share the songs He has put in my heart with others who need to hear the message of God's grace and the amazing story of His Son.
